Health

If you live with chronic illness, or are collaborating with someone who is, I’ll use this space to pass on a few brief remarks from my experience.

With chronic illness, one equals three. For example, pain degrades sleep, which degrades mental health, which decreases resilience to pain, and so on. There are countless variations of these compounding causal chains that can be easy to underestimate. These chains induce a combinatorial expansion of finding solutions and remedies through trial and error. This combinatorial expansion is the mechanism by which managing or healing become a permanent part-time job. Patience and resilience are essential, since the progress on this “part-time job” will be invisible for a long time. With just enough tenacity, luck, and support, healing is possible. All the best!
